I have been an employee, a workmate and an employer of jws over the years.
Most are ok, but there was definitely an air of entitlement amongst the pioneers.
i found a company and employed an elder as an underwriter and two ms as sales and marketing.
anyway, this elder will delegate his work to the ms in sales and marketing, so he can go home early.
he knew when he got started that this would be a 10 hour a day job with some saturday.

at the 2021 annual meeting, samuel herd revealed new light and claimed the anointed will all have passed away before armageddon.
it has since been revealed that while they will die before armageddon, there will be some anointed still around that will witness the start of the great tribulation.. so the question is, how many years until the existing members of the governing body have passed away?.
im not a doctor, but based on their age and various stages of obesity, im thinking 10- 15 years- give or take, sounds about right.. with that in mind, the great tribulation could be announced any day.. the new understanding has now freed the org from the burden of having to identify a particular generation in relation to the date of armageddon.

As Simon said, the maths just doesn't work. I remember posting about this when I still thought it mattered; https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/14945/do-jws-still-believe-wt-version-144000"
No, the maths for the 144000 doesn't work.
This new understanding allows for GB to declare the number of anointed is now sealed.

“According to the GB, the only anointed that really count are themselves, all the rest are irrelevant.”
No, they won’t be irrelevant when the GB needs them to count.
Have you noticed how the helpers of the “other sheep” can suddenly feel a heavenly calling when they get within sniffing distance of the GB .
If they want to , they can maintain this for years...... or if not just change it ."
With the new understanding they have removed the millstone of the generation teaching from around their neck.
They no longer need to have anyone from a particular generation still alive when armageddon occurs. They have never said this before.

The overlapping generations understanding is now irrelevant. The anointed dying BEFORE armageddon changes everything.
I see what you are saying. Problem is that the numbers of annointed keeps growing every year."
I thought about that, but the GB made it clear a long time ago that they dont maintain a network of anointed to reveal doctrine. I think it was a talk by Geoffrey Jackson.

Why?
At the 2021 annual meeting, Samuel Herd revealed new light and claimed the anointed will all have passed away before Armageddon. It has since been revealed that while they will die before Armageddon, there will be some anointed still around that will witness the start of the great tribulation.
So the question is, how many years until the existing members of the governing body have passed away?
Im not a doctor, but based on their age and various stages of obesity, Im thinking 10- 15 years- give or take, sounds about right.

The new understanding has now freed the org from the burden of having to identify a particular generation in relation to the date of armageddon. The overlapping generations understanding is now irrelevant. The anointed dying BEFORE armageddon changes everything.
There is no longer any need for the governing body to be stacked with ever younger members in order to prolong the 'generation' requirement.
From the viewpoint of the org, the beautiful part about the new light is that the great tribulation has no set time, it is indefinite and it doesnt matter how long it lasts before armageddon. They may even declare the great tribulation is the new normal of the world condition, making the switch from 'we are living in the last days' to 'we are living in the great tribulation'.
After the present anointed are gone, the org will be run by helpers, with no doctrinal pressure for armageddon to occur in relation to any group of people being alive to witness it.
theres a couple of threads re: 1914 on the board right now and it got me thinking.. the jw doctrine of the 1914 generation is a key doctrine , yet it is probably the number one reason most have left over the decades.. 1975- within one generation.. 1995 - new understanding of the word generation.. 2010- overlapping generation first mentioned- some anointed survive armageddon.. 2015- infamous overlapping generations chart featuring david splane.. its obvious the org is changing the goalposts and constantly trying to squeeze as much time as they can before they have to abandon this altogether.
or will they come up with something new?.
does anyone else think this ever changing doctrine is responsible for the biggest loss of members?.
TonusOH-
"But it's a complicated and messy concept, and you can no longer just say "the generation that saw these things is getting older" because (A)you already abandoned that idea and (B)everyone knows you can just extend it again. So you cannot create the urgency this way. "
Waton-
" here you can see the twisting by wt writers of the original text.
Jesus said that all these things will come to pass, then the generation would die (like it did in the first century). "all these things" obviously includes the disaster bigger than Noah's flood. aka Armageddon. that Jesus mentioned as fact in the prophecy.
The start of the GT is only a blip in all that.
wt says : generation dies at the beginning. "
Maybe this will be the end game for the org.
If they were to declare the start of the great tribulation today, it could be stretched long enough to allow the previous teaching to fade into obscurity.
By subtly changing the wording of the prophecy and saying the anointed will be gone before armageddon, they have just solved the generation problem once and for all.
Declaring the GT has started would jump-start the enthusiasm of the members and bring inactive ones back to the org.
The period of the GT is indefinite, so by the time the current generation dies off, the governing body has had plenty of time to switch things up again.

Waton, this is from 2014, I couldn't find anything specifically from 2010. It only mentions some anointed seeing the start of the great tribulation.
In reality, the start of the great tribulation could stretch over decades, depending on how the gb sells it.
“We understand that in mentioning “this generation,” Jesus was referring to two groups of annointed Christians. … They were anointed with holy spirit during the time that those of the first group were still on earth. ... Today, those in this second group are themselves advancing in years. Yet, Jesus’ words at Matthew 24:34 give us confidence that at least some of “this generation will by no means pass away” before seeing the start of the great tribulation.” Watchtower 2014 Jan 15 p.31

hey Smiddy,
Maybe the title is accidently misleading.
The decrease I was referring to was the amount of JW's that have left exclusively because of the failures tied to the 1914 generation prophecy. Not the recent, total amount of active dubs, which has increased over the years. It would be interesting to know how many have left because of disappointment over constantly evolving armageddon timeframes.
It seems ironic that the expectation of imminent salvation, based on a set of dates keeps some in the org, while the same prophecy drives others away.

The JW doctrine of the 1914 generation is a key doctrine , yet it is probably the number one reason most have left over the decades.
1975- within one generation.
1995 - new understanding of the word generation.
2010- overlapping generation first mentioned- some anointed survive armageddon.

i was googling the subject and came across this story.
i just had an incredible phone conversation with a long-time jw who has strong "q-anon" "sovereign citizen" beliefs.
the wife(first gen) says she is not surprised.
Jhine- sadly , it isnt just the U.S.
Plenty of QAnon believers here in Australia.
